Hot Weather Policy

In an effort to avoid interruptions to our students’ learning programs and also cope with extreme hot weather, the Governing Council has endorsed an amendment to the Hot Weather Policy.

A summary of the new policy states:

In the event the temperature is predicted to be 38 degrees or higher in electronic media, based on the Bureau of Meteorology 7.00 a.m. forecast of that morning, students will be dismissed at 12.45 p.m. Year 8-10 students will only be dismissed if written parent/caregiver consent is provided.

As it is important to minimize the disruption to the senior school learning program we will continue to conduct Year 11 and 12 lessons as per the normal timetable.

Staff will remain on duty on days of early dismissal. The school will be expected to provide an appropriate standard of care until normal dismissal time for students whose parents/caregivers are unable to make alternative arrangements.

If you wish for your daughter/son to go home early on such occasions, a letter and tear-off slip was supplied in the school enrolment pack. This should have been returned to the student's Home Group teacher. If not, additional copies of the letter are available from the SEHS front office or available to download below.

Informing parents/caregivers

The school will inform families of the early dismissal via text message prior to recess. Please note that the 476 Bus will not be changed given an early dismissal and other transport arrangements will need to be organised.
