Internationalism at Salisbury East High School

Internationalism at Salisbury East High School (SEHS) seeks to prepare students for an increasingly globalized world. Graduates of SEHS understand that people and communities of the world are becoming increasingly interdependent.

History of Internationalism at SEHS

1997 - Established a sister school relationship with the Number 9 Middle School, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, Peoples Republic of China.

1998 - Hosted a visiting teacher from Japan participating in the Monbu Sho study program.

1999 - Hosted a visit by a Vocational Education and Training delegation from the Peoples Republic of  China. - Hosted a visiting teacher from Japan participating in the Monbu Sho study program. - Hosted a short term visit by 12 students and 3 staff from Toda High School, Japan. - 6 SEHS students and 4 staff toured Shanghai, Suzhou and Nanjing, visited the Number 9 Middle School, Nanjing and participated in the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Peoples Republic.

2000 - Hosted a visit by 27 students and 3 staff from the Taiyuan Foreign Languages School.

2001 - Hosted a principals delegation from Qingdao, Shandong Province, China. - Hosted a short term visit by 18 students and 1 staff from Saidaiji High School, Japan. - 25 SEHS students and 3 staff toured Shanghai, Suzhou and Nanjing, again visiting our sister school in Nanjing.

2002 - Hosted a principals delegation from Indonesia. - Established sister school relationship with the Number 1 Middle School, Jiaonan, Shandong Province. - Established relationship with the Zhenjiang Education Centre for International Exchange and the Changzhou Education Centre for International Exchange, both in Jiangsu Province, China, - Hosted a short term visit by 19 students and 1 staff from Kobe City, Japan. - Presented award for excellence for the promotion of Chinese language by the Major of Adelaide, Mr Alfred Huang.

2003 - Hosted a short term visit by 18 students and 3 staff from sister school the Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School, Shandong Province. - School trip to China 8 students and 4 staff, touring Beijing, Qingdao, Nanjing, Suzhou, Shanghai and visiting Number 1 Middle School Jiaonan.

2004 - School graduate presented an Australia Day Award by the Governor of South Australia for excellence in languages and multiculturalism. - Hosted a short term visit by 15 students and 3 staff from sister school the Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School, Shandong Province. - Presentation to Shijiazhuang Principals Delegation - Hosted short term visit by students and staff from Hong Kong. - School trip to China, 12 students and 7 staff, toured Beijing, Qingdao, Nanjing, Suzhou, Zhenjiang, Shanghai, visited sister-schools in Jiaonan and Nanjing

2005 - Hosted 1 teacher for 6 weeks on exchange from sister-school the Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School, Shandong Province - Hosted delegation of 28 Principals from Qingdao - Hosted a short term visit by 13 students and 1 staff from sister-school the Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School, Shandong Province - Preliminary visit by Council of Internationally Accredited  Schools in June. - Hosted a short term visit by 22 students and 3 staff from Koishikawa High School, Japan. 28th July to 8th August - Hosted 2 students from France on international exchange from 25th July to 26th of August - Hosted visit by Principal of Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School for SEHS 40th Anniversary Celebrations - Hosted a short term visit by 18 students and 1 staff from Ritsumeikan Junior High School, Japan from 23rd Novemebr to 7th December. - SEHS teacher to Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School for 3 weeks, lecturing staff and students on English teaching and learning, Australian culture and school life.

2006 - SEHS China Band tour, 10 April to 29 April. 13 students toured Beijing,Qingdao, Jiaonan, Nanjing, Suzhou and Shanghai. Performed in Jiaonan and Nanjing. - Hosted 17 students and 2 staff from Koishikawa High School for a short term study tour 27th July to 7th August. - 2 staff from SEHS to Jiaonan for two weeks on teacher exchange. - Council of Internationally Accredited Schools accreditation team visit 29th October to 3rd November.

2007 - Presentation of Secondary to tertiary pathways to Qingdao principals delegation. - Received CIASa accreditation. - Hosted visit by 2 staff and 15 students from Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School. - Hosted 18 students and 3 staff from Koishikawa High School - Hosted exchange teacher from Jiaonan Middle School for 4 weeks. - 3 staff and 3 students toured China, visited Jiaonan No 1 Middle School, continued negotiations for staff trip and SEHS campus in 2008. - Provided professional development session to a visiting group of 13 international student teachers from UniSA.       

2008 - 4 Full fee paying international students from Vietnam enrolled first semester. - Hosted 2 staff and 15 students from Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School 15th to 18th of February. - 10 staff participated in professional development study of China, 12th April to 27th of April. Toured Beijing, Xian, Suzhou and Shanghai, visited Jiaonan No.1 Middle School and Nanjing No.9 Middle School. Principal also visited Jiaonan and Nanjing schools.

2009 - 2 staff and 12 students from the Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School visited SEHS from 1st of February to 5th February. - 2 staff and 11 students toured China, visited Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School 23rd September to 11th November. 1 staff member to Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School for 2 weeks in November, also 1 day at Jiaonan Number 5 Middle School and 1 day at Nanjing Number 9 Middle School.

2010 - 2 staff and 11 students from the Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School visited SEHS from 20th of February to 23rd February. - 2 staff and 10 students from SEHS toured China from 21st September to 5th October. Visited Beijing, Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School, Nanjing, Suzhou and Shanghai.

2011 - 2 staff and 15 students from the Jiaonan Number 1 Middle School visited SEHS from 8th of February to 11rd February.
