Principal's Message

Term four is often the most hectic term in secondary schools and this year is by no means an exception.

In addition to our regular teaching and learning, our students have engaged in a wide range of activities including the SEAL camp to Melbourne, First Lego League Competition, High Impact Programs (about employability skills) and the Concept to Creation Expo to name but a few.

This term is also a time for reflection, looking back on our achievements, our challenges and planning for future improvements and successes.

As we work toward shaping plans for the new school year we also wish to seek community feedback to assist in this planning and invite parents and caregivers to participate in our 2015 survey. This is located on our school website at https://www.sehs.sa.edu.au/2015-parent-opinion-survey This survey should take 15 minutes to complete and will close on 4/12/15. We thank our families in anticipation of their support and comments.

For our Year 12s, Term 4 is a time of high anticipation and conflicting emotions. Excitement at the prospect of completing and leaving school, sadness at leaving their friends and nervousness for the uncertainty and change that lies ahead, but also elation at the possibility of adventure, freedom and independence. During these past few weeks we have celebrated with our Year 12 students at both our Whole School Farewell assembly and their Graduation Celebration, and acknowledged their successes and achievements. They have worked diligently to complete their final tasks and exams and now look forward to their last school milestone with their Formal celebrations on Tuesday 17th November. We are confident that the Class of 2015 is well equipped to be successful in their future and wish them every success with their endeavours!

In addition to our student activities our school has recently hosted a special visit from Jayne Johnston, DECD Chief Education Officer. Jayne genuinely enjoyed the opportunity to tour our facilities and to observe our students showcasing diverse STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) learning activities. We were impressed with the students' ability to explain and articulate areas of learning and communicate with us their future aspirations.

We are currently preparing for many activities to mark the end of the school year, including the official opening of the new Creative Arts Centre, arrival of the Ritsumeikan Junior High School Study Tour from Japan, Year 6 Headstart visits from neighbouring Primary Schools, Year 7-8 Transition Day, Year 10 Mock interviews and the Year 8-11 Awards Assembly. All families are welcome to join our end of year celebration on Friday, 27th November, and are requested to meet at the front office at 9.50 a.m. Please phone the school on 8258 2070 if you plan on attending (for seating purposes).

Despite all of these activities and the disruption of different year levels finishing their studies at varying times, it is important for students to maintain their focus, continue to attend school, complete their final assessment tasks and finish strongly!
