The Wednesday Wellness initiative was first implemented in Term 2 of 2015 for Year 12 students.
Starting at 7.45 a.m. every Wednesday before the school day begins, students engage in yoga and meditation sessions for approximately 45 minutes.
Based around Positive Psychology and Well Being, the sessions are designed to increase feelings of positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning and accomplishment.
The program is led by dance teacher Mrs Weston, who is also a qualified yoga instructor, and Year 12 Coordinator Mr Peck, who delivers the meditation and mindfulness components.
Despite the early start, up to 20 students regularly take part in the sessions each week, and feedback from all participants is extremely encouraging.
Initially set-up to support our Year 12 students during a time in their high school education that can often prove to be particularly stressful, plans are in place to extend the program to other year levels, and teachers, in the near future.
