Specialist programs

From cool STEM projects to rocking performing arts, we’ve got something for everyone. With amazing teachers and activities, our programs are all about discovering what makes you tick and chasing your dreams.

The arts

We offer a strong specialist program in the arts, including music, performing arts and media. These programs help develop students’ creativity, confidence, cultural knowledge and critical thinking.

Specialist Music

As part of this exciting music engagement course, students are eligible for instrumental music lessons delivered by specialists at Instrumental Music (IM). These are held weekly and come at no cost to the students. Students are required to attend these lessons or use a private provider to ensure that their musical skills are developed to perform in front of an audience. Specialist Music is offered to students studying Music for a full year from years 8-10. For senior school students, the course duration is negotiated.

Aerobics

Aerobics is for students who want to improve their fitness, strength, flexibility, and choreography skills. Students learn a high-energy set routine to some energetic music and perform it with their teammates in front of a large audience at competitions. Our ‘Active Crew’ has made it to the national championships in the past and hopes to continue this winning streak.

Schools Challenge

The Schools Challenge is Australia’s newest performing arts event for schools. Through this experience students develop and create a stage-ready item incorporating dance, theatre and vocals to tell a story. The Schools Challenge is designed to support teachers and students throughout the journey with learning tools and opportunities aligning with key values such as positive mental health, growth mindset, positive body image, and having a voice.

Languages

We’re thrilled to offer Japanese language courses tailored for students from year 7 to year 12. Our program follows the Australian Curriculum guidelines and the SACE Continuers Language framework, ensuring your child receives a well-rounded education in Japanese language and culture spanning across year 7 to 12.

At Salisbury East High School, we go beyond just learning the language. Our curriculum dives deep into the fascinating world of Japanese culture, giving students a comprehensive understanding that goes beyond textbooks. Students also have the opportunity to travel to Japan and immerse themselves in the culture whilst practising their language skills.

Prepare your child for a future filled with endless opportunities by immersing them in our dynamic Japanese language program. Join us as we open doors to new horizons and create lifelong learners with a global perspective.

Robotics

SEHS robotics program

Our program, with a special focus on the VEX Robotics Competition, caters to students from years 7 to 12, nurturing their passion for robotics, engineering and programming. It provides a hands-on approach to learning vital STEM skills as well as provides a social platform for students to meet new people. We welcome students of all experience levels, whether a seasoned programmer or just starting out. There’s a place for everyone here.

Connection and belonging

Beyond the technical skills, our program fosters a sense of community among like-minded students. Participating in the program allows students to connect with each other and the school, creating a sense of belonging. We believe that this connection enhances the learning experience and contributes to our students’ overall wellbeing.

Our success

Our journey began just 3 years ago, and since then, we’ve experienced remarkable success. Our teams have consistently qualified for the National Championship every year, a testament to the dedication, teamwork, and ingenuity of our students and mentors.

One of our most notable achievements was during the 2022/2023 season when our middle school team qualified and travelled to the prestigious World Championship in Dallas, Texas. This accomplishment underscores our program’s commitment to excellence and our students’ potential to be future leaders in STEM.

Join us as we continue to explore, innovate, and achieve in the exciting world of robotics. Together, we’re not just building robots; we’re building the future and a strong, supportive community.
