Wellbeing

At Salisbury East High School, we understand that success is not just about academia alone and, as such, we strive to provide a holistic education that enables students to become productive, caring, compassionate and resilient members of society. We prioritise the development of positive relationships, alongside high-quality teaching practice, to encourage and support individuals and communities to thrive.

Our staff build positive relationships with learners and those associated with them, by embedding our school values of respect, responsibility, and resilience in their everyday work. These relationships create optimum conditions for wellbeing and successful learning. We want all students to feel a sense of belonging at SEHS, and we promote a range of clubs and activities, house challenges, sports events, class competitions, and wellbeing days to help them develop deep connections with peers and staff.

The Middle and Senior School Teams aim to implement programs and strategies that support the needs of all learners for their academic, social, and emotional needs, which are delivered in our mentoring lessons and at other times.

Utilising a range of evidence-based wellbeing strategies, SEHS focuses on developing specific skills that assist students to strengthen their relationships, build positive emotions, enhance personal resilience, promote mindfulness, and encourage a healthy lifestyle. These skills are explored through engagement in a variety of learning opportunities and relationship development, including the Child Protection Curriculum (CPC).

The School Mental Health Service (SMHS) is operated by one full-time mental health practitioner, which is appointment based and structured. This service is specifically designed for students experiencing emerging or mild/moderate health concerns and provides individual mental health assessments and brief interventions, addressing identified goals, as well as therapeutic group work and whole school ‘mental health promotion’.
